What is pupil premium?
The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers.

How is pupil premium funded?
Secondary schools receive £935 funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years.
Secondary school also receive £1,900 for each child identified as having left local-authority care because of one of the following reasons:

a special guardianship order

a child arrangements order
-
a residence order

Secondary schools also receive £300 for each child service child or child in receipt of a child pension from the Ministry of Defence. Service personnel with children in state schools in England should notify the school of their child or children’s eligibility.

How is the school accountable for this funding?
The school is accountable for the use of pupil premium funding in two ways. Firstly, through Ofsted school inspections which report on the attainment and progress of disadvantaged pupils who attract the pupil premium.

And secondly, the school must publish an annual Pupil Premium Strategy Statement which is available using the link below.
