Admissions 2018-19
From 2017-18 the Published Admission Number for Birchwood Community High School will be 210 in Year 7 to Year 11.
Admissions to Birchwood Community High School for Year 6 pupils who wish to apply to join us in 2017-18 are co-ordinated by Warrington Borough Council. It provides guidance which can be found by clicking here.
The arrangements for Warrington community schools for the academic year 2017-18 have now been determined and are the same as the previous year.
There is no partnering arrangement for primary schools to Birchwood Community High School.

OVER-SUBSCRIPTION CRITERIA
​
Over-subscription criteria are used to establish an order of priority for allocation purposes when the number of applications for places at a school is greater that the number of places available.
Children who have a statement of special educational needs will be admitted to the school named in the statement over and above the published over-subscription criteria.

The oversubscription criteria for Birchwood Community High School will be published in the parents’ guide as follows:

Children in care and children formerly in care.

Siblings (learners with elder brothers or sisters already attending the preferred school and expected to continue at the school in the following school year. This includes full, half or step brothers and sisters and foster brothers and sisters who are living at the same address as part of the same family unit).

Learners for whom advice from a medical practitioner or psychologist has been provided by the parents at the time of application in support of admission to a particular school, which, in the Council’s view, justifies admission to the preferred school. The Council, if it is considered appropriate, will seek the views of the School Medical Officer or Educational Psychologist in the event of parents requesting admission on medical or psychological grounds.

Learners living nearest to the school defined as a direct distance from the child’s permanent place of residence to the school, measured using a Geographical Information Address Point system based on the Local Land and Property Gazetteer. This measures straight line distances from the address point of the permanent place of residence to the address point of the school, (in miles).

Where a school reaches its published admission number from learners within one of the categories listed above those learners to be admitted from within that category will be those whose permanent place of residence is closest to the school as defined in oversubscription criterion five.

The Academy Trust has agreed to follow the Council’s scheme for all admissions to the school for academic year
2017-18. The school may decide to review its arrangements for admissions to the school in September 2017. In this
case information will be made available as to consultation for a period of eight weeks between 1 November 2016 and
1 March 2017. For access to these schemes, please refer to the Council’s website.

APPEALS TIMETABLE

After the publication of the new appeals code in February, it is now a statutory requirement for all admission authorities to set a timetable in relation to the appeals process. Furthermore, this timetable must be published on the website by 28 February each year.
